Arsenal eye Konsa as Saliba injury reshapes their defensive window

William Saliba's back injury has, according to CaughtOffside, pushed Arsenal into the market for a centre-back, with Aston Villa's Ezri Konsa emerging as Mikel Arteta's priority target. The subplot is just as interesting: if Konsa arrives at the Emirates, Ben White could be the man who makes way, with Everton reportedly circling.

The injury that started it all

Saliba's absence is the kind of problem that changes a transfer window. Arsenal's defensive structure is built around the Frenchman, and without him Arteta is short of a reliable first-choice partner for Gabriel. CaughtOffside reports that the club have identified Konsa as the man to fill that gap, with his ability to operate at centre-back and right-back adding flexibility that a squad suddenly thin at the back genuinely needs.

Why Konsa makes sense

Konsa has been one of the more consistent defenders in the Premier League over the past two seasons at Villa. He reads the game well, is comfortable on the ball, and crucially can cover multiple positions, which matters when you are managing a squad through a long campaign. For Arsenal, who are still in the title conversation, signing a player who can slot in centrally or wide gives Arteta options rather than just a like-for-like replacement.

The Ben White question

Here is where it gets complicated. CaughtOffside's report suggests that Konsa's arrival could effectively end White's time at Arsenal, with Everton named as an interested party. White has had a difficult couple of seasons with injuries himself, and with Konsa capable of covering the right-back role, the logic of moving him on is at least coherent. Whether Everton can make the numbers work is another matter entirely.

Hold your horses

This story is currently resting on a single source, and CaughtOffside frames both the Konsa pursuit and the White-to-Everton link as possibilities rather than anything close to done. No fee has been reported, no personal terms discussed publicly, and there is no corroboration from a second outlet. The direction makes football sense, but sense and confirmed are not the same thing. Worth watching, not worth banking on.
