Chelsea enter the race for Manu Koné
Manu Koné spent the summer making himself very difficult to ignore. Now, according to CaughtOffside, two of England's biggest clubs have noticed: Chelsea have reportedly entered the race for the Roma midfielder alongside Manchester United, with Roma valuing their 25-year-old at around £43 million.
The player
Koné is the kind of midfielder who makes a squad look more serious just by being in it. He presses hard and carries the ball through midfield lines with a composure that most players at this level cannot match. He has developed steadily since arriving in Rome and used the 2026 World Cup to put that development in front of the widest possible audience. France's tournament run gave him a stage, and he did not waste it.
Why Chelsea and United both want him
Chelsea's midfield has been a revolving door long enough that Enzo Maresca needs someone who can anchor it rather than rotate through it. Koné fits the profile: a player with the physicality to handle the Premier League and the technical quality to hold a position in a possession-based system. Manchester United's interest, meanwhile, makes sense for different reasons. Roma's position
Roma will not be rushing to the phone. Koné is one of their genuine assets, and selling a key midfielder to a Premier League club mid-rebuild is not a decision any sporting director takes lightly. The £43 million valuation suggests they know exactly what they have, and that figure may climb if a bidding war develops between two clubs with the resources to push it.
