That's the record Marseille have put together since beating Strasbourg on the opening weekend, and the low point came at the Stade Vélodrome, where PSG won 1-2 in the Classique on 20 September. According to Foot Mercato, the defeat leaves OM among the sides who would go down if the Ligue 1 table stopped today.

A summer that never got fixed

Marseille went into this season with a squad reshaped more by exits than by arrivals, and the dysfunction Genesio flagged before the Classique hasn't gone away. Foot Mercato reported that the manager was already fielding criticism over the team's direction ahead of the PSG game, and the result did nothing to quiet it. Marseille arrived at the Classique with almost nothing to show for their own market activity, and the loss at home to their fiercest rival only sharpened the questions being asked of the squad Genesio was handed.

Genesio's cryptic answers

After the loss to PSG, Genesio didn't offer the usual post-match deflection. Foot Mercato reported he has privately told people close to him that he could walk away from the job imminently, and in public he leaned into the ambiguity rather than shutting it down. He also took a direct shot at the club's hierarchy, saying he "assumes his part of the responsibility, like others will have to do too", a line that reads less like accountability and more like a message sent upward.

Marseille have since said Genesio gave what Foot Mercato called a first confirmation on his future, though the outlet also described him as still leaving things vague and continuing to needle his own directors. Whatever that confirmation actually settles, it hasn't settled the obvious tension between a manager who feels unsupported and a board that hasn't given him much to work with.

A statistic Marseille will want to forget

Foot Mercato also flagged something that sums up how bad this has got: Genesio has now equalled an unwanted club record that stretches back 62 years. Whatever the exact number attached to it, a stat that old getting matched in September is not the kind of headline a club with Marseille's history wants to be generating three weeks into a season.
