Mbappé: back, and already scoring
Kylian Mbappé has been back from the World Cup for five minutes and forty-something seconds, and he has already scored. Real Madrid's final pre-season fixture against Schalke 04 at the Veltins-Arena in Gelsenkirchen gave the Frenchman exactly the kind of re-entry that every Madrid fan wanted to see.
Six minutes. That's all it took.
According to Foot Mercato, Mbappé needed just six minutes on his return to action to find the net against Schalke 04 in Gelsenkirchen. It was Real Madrid's last pre-season run-out before the new campaign begins, and the man who spent the summer at the World Cup looked anything but rusty.
Yan Diomandé was also named in the squad for the fixture, per Foot Mercato, as Madrid used the Veltins-Arena game to get their World Cup contingent back up to speed.
Going into the season
Mbappé's post-World Cup sharpness will be one of the most watched storylines in European football this season. Players who go deep into a tournament often take weeks to find their rhythm; Mbappé, apparently, needed less time than it takes to make a cup of tea.
With Mourinho able to call on his returning World Cup players, per Foot Mercato, Madrid's pre-season has ended on the right note. Their first competitive fixture is now days away, and their main striker is already off the mark.
