Godts to PSG: Ajax lose another one

Paris Saint-Germain have signed Mika Godts from Ajax Amsterdam for €55 million, tying the 21-year-old Belgian winger down until 2031. His agent confirmed the deal was done on 14 August; by 15 August, Godts was in front of the cameras delivering his first words as a Parisian. Luis Enrique now has one of the most electric young wide players in European football on a six-year contract. Ajax, meanwhile, are watching another academy jewel walk out the door.

What Godts brings to Luis Enrique

At 21, Godts is the kind of winger who makes defenders nervous before the ball even arrives. Direct, fast, comfortable in tight spaces, he spent his Ajax years proving he belonged at the top level, and PSG have decided €55 million is the right price to find out how good he can actually get.

Luis Enrique's system demands wide players who press high, carry the ball forward and create in transition. Godts fits that profile. He takes the number 22 shirt and walks into a squad that, post-Mbappé, has been deliberately rebuilt around younger, hungrier profiles. A six-year deal to 2031 suggests PSG see him as a long-term starter, not a squad option.

What it means for Ajax

For Ajax, this one stings. Godts is the latest in a line of prized assets to leave Amsterdam for a bigger stage, and at €55 million he is not cheap to replace. The Dutch club have been in a prolonged rebuild since their 2018-19 Champions League run, and losing a player of Godts' age and trajectory makes that rebuild harder, not easier.

The fee is real money, and Ajax will need to spend it wisely. The problem is that finding another 21-year-old winger with Godts' ceiling is not something you do in a single transfer window. Godts was officially unveiled by PSG on 15 August, per Foot Mercato, completing a move that had been confirmed by his agent the day before.
