His Monaco stint gave him Ligue 1 experience and exposure to a club that operates at the sharper end of European football development. Beyond that, the details of his record there are still filtering through, and Scottish fans will want a fuller picture quickly.

Steve Clarke's tenure was long, often frustrating, and occasionally brilliant.
